It’s with true sadness that I have to type the following sentence: Pat Casey, beloved father, husband, great fucking BMX rider, and an all around fantastic human, has passed away. I’ve known Pat the better part of twenty years… I first met up with him on his backyard ramp to shoot a little thing on him for Ride BMX magazine and I vividly remember being how shocked at how damn good he was—that he was able to do flair whips at 16 when most of BMX hadn’t locked them in yet. I also remember thinking it was pretty fucking awesome that his dad not only built him a mini ramp, but made a studio underneath one of the decks so that Pat could wail away at the drums in between sessions. Pat was quiet, but confident in who he was and how good he was on a bike.
From there, Pat took everything and anything he wanted. Bought his dream house at 18, married the love of his life, built massive dirt jumps, won events all over the world, had his son Reid, added more ramps, filmed some fucking wild video parts, got some magazine covers, had his daughter Taytum, added more ramps to his yard, won X Games a couple times, etc etc… Pat owned the “Dreamyard” but he also managed to build a pretty damn dreamlife, too.
I have been at numerous events/happenings across the world where I’ve seen him do some incredible stuff on the bike and some dumb shit like try to jump on the back of a wild horse in Russia. He was, somehow, always the most chill person and the person ready to do the most…someone that made traveling fun and full of memories. I’ve long touted him as one of the toughest people I know, so it only makes this news more unbelievable… Pat lost his life riding moto at his friend Axell Hodge’s compound today. His family was present and got to spend his last moments together. I am absolutely devastated thinking about his wife Chase, his son Reid, and his daughter Taytum.
Please show your respects.
