Quick age reveal for me here… I remember seeing photos from the Shimersville BS comp from 1993 in RideBMX magazine. Well, Steve Crandall and the FBM dudes not only lived it, but also documented with a borrowed VHS camera. The recently unsurfaced footage shows gladiators from the “dead-school” era Mat Hoffman, Dave Clymer, Joe Rich, Jon ‘Luc-e’ Englebert, Joe ‘Butcher’ Kowalski, Sandy Carson, Jeff Crawn, Leigh Ramsdell, Jay Miron and Dave Mirra. Personally, the biggest takeaway for me is how stoked the crowd gets—regardless if the tricks are even pulled or not.
