Matt Wilhelm has been a pro flatlander longer than some riders have even alive! He’s stood on the podium at events around the globe and inspires a new generation of kids through his school shows. Matt’s a pro if there ever was one and it’s awesome to see him get such great recognition through this extremely well done (and Emmy Award nominated) documentary, The Second Run. Whatever style of riding you identify with—street, parks, trials, flat—you’ll certainly relate to Matt’s love for riding and drive to keep going.

“A professional BMX rider shares his personal journey from being a bullied child with prominent ears to becoming an X Games medalist and inspirational speaker. Growing up obsessed with Hot Wheels and bikes, he found his passion in BMX freestyle during a time when the sport wasn’t considered cool. Despite facing bullying at school, BMX gave him confidence, a sense of belonging, and a crew of fellow riders. His path to success wasn’t smooth – after qualifying for the X Games, he placed last in his first competition, which was devastating but ultimately motivated him to work harder. He came back to win a bronze medal and went on to compete successfully worldwide, making podiums at major competitions across multiple continents. Now he travels to schools doing 45-minute shows that combine BMX tricks with messages about bullying, kindness, resilience, and not giving up. He’s discovered that helping kids through his story and school presentations is more fulfilling than any competition victory, as students sometimes tell him he’s changed their lives.”
